Action Point 8.1 YOUNG PEOPLE'S FACILITIES

1. The Issue or Problem
Lack of appropriate facilities for young people in the village.
Links: Links with AP2.1 Anti-social Behaviour. Potential links with AP13 Broadband - Internet Café.

 

2. Specific evidence of the importance of the issue to Ringmer People
Both adults and young people in Ringmer recognise the need for more appropriate facilities for young people within Ringmer. Questionnaire responses to Q 12, 60,Young People's questionnaire Q3-6.
Anti-social behaviour of a minority of young people affects the community.

 

3. The Action
To provide a place for young people to meet informally through the provision of a Young People's Shelter.

 

4. How it will be tackled
Liaison between Parish Council, Youth Service, Young People, Police and local residents regarding a suitable location.
Investigate funding sources and designs, e.g. through AIRS, Children's Network.
Consultations with Police, Youth Service, Young People and Parish Council regarding maintenance, supervision, upkeep and security.

6. When should it be done by
Within the next twelve months.

 

7. Resource implications
Area to site shelter.
Funds to purchase and erect the shelter.
Costs of maintenance etc.

 

Action Point 8.2 CINEMA/FILM CLUB

1. The Issue or Problem
To improve provision of social facilities within the village.
Links: Link to AP 8.1 Young People's Needs and Facilities.

 

2. Specific evidence of the importance of the issue to Ringmer People
In Q4 of the Young People's questionnaire, 62 young people asked for a film club.
In Q12 of the questionnaire, the most popular social facility requested was a cinema/film club, (48 people).

 

3. The Action
Carry out a pilot scheme of film showing for primary aged young people.
Subsequently explore the extension of this provision to secondary aged young people and adults.

 

4. How it will be tackled
A film showing will be organised for pupils of Ringmer Primary School and their siblings in the Autumn of 2003. Subsequent developments will be considered in the light of the success of this event and general interest generated.

Pilot scheme to run in the autumn term of 2003

Costs of hire of equipment, films and hall.
Insurance cover.
Volunteer staffing.
