Help Ringmer to survive as a Village!

Details of the 'protectringmer' group

Dear Ringmer Resident,

Several of us were co-signatories of a recent open letter to villagers - Ringmer Village May Not Survive - written as the result of a spontaneous reaction against a system that had ignored the views of residents in allocating what is perceived as excessive and inappropriate new building.

With the election of two Ringmer residents in the recent district elections our village is now in a position to exercise far more influence over its future. The 'protectringmer' group, which is completely free of political affiliations, has therefore been launched to provide both a focus and, if necessary, a pressure group.

Villagers with a genuine commitment to the protection of our village may wish to be associated with protectringmer.

protectringmer will identify and pursue up to three strategic issues of concern to Ringmer. Obviously the volume and nature of new building on our greenfields will be at the top of our immediate agenda.

What will 'protectringmer' do?

  • Identify a small number of major issues of concern to Ringmer's residents
  • Seek clear, concise statements from our elected representatives which indicate their position on each of these issues
  • Report to villagers at least annually on our representatives' performance (e.g. voting record, on the record statements, responses to questions etc)
  • Report to villagers immediately when matters of urgency (e.g. inappropriate major building schemes) are proposed.
  • Seek a good working relationship with all our elected representatives including our Parish Council
  • The group will not accept individuals with any vested interest other than village resident.

Which other strategic issues might 'protectringmer' address?

One possibility is the need for upgrading of the A27 (90% of Ringmer residents who responded to a recent poll want extensive further dual carriageway)
