News

Ringmer and Geschwenda are now twinned!

The official twinning agreement between our two communities was signed by Ralf Groteloh, Berg Heyer, John Kay and Sharon Gunde on 13 November, 2010.  A reception was held at the Village Hall to celebrate the occasion and the signing ceremony was followed by a delicious buffet provided by ‘SAY CHEESE’ and a session of barn dancing.  We were delighted to have the support of Norman Baker, who gave a speech in German.  Further details and photos can be seen in the December issue of the Ringmer Parish Magazine and here on the Ringmer Village News Website (www.ringmer.info).  The article was also published in the Sussex Express on Friday, 19th November.

Our seven guests also visited Brighton – the highlight being lunch at their favourite fish and chip restaurant. This was followed by a jolly Friday evening at the Cock Inn.   On Saturday they were taken on a tour of Eastbourne and the coast by Angela and Susan. Irene and Andy prepared and hosted a wonderful afternoon tea on Saturday.  Louise and Angela also contributed cakes and scones.

Our visitors departed on Sunday morning and Irene and Michael gallantly got up at an unearthly hour, in order to take them to the airport.

Many thanks to those of you who worked so hard to make the visit a success.

Annual General Meeting

28th September, 2010

We had a very successful AGM at the Village Hall in September.  The Chair  presented her report and members discussed the progress made towards achieving our aims and the challenges of the forthcoming year.  The following members of the committee for 2010-11 were elected: Sharon Gunde (Chair), Susan Noone (Vice Chair), Irene Jupp, Louise Wombwell, Angela Morrison and Molly Berry.  The Chair will undertake the roles of Treasurer (with the support of Irene) and Secretary (with the support of Sally Butler as Minute Secretary).  Angela will have special responsibility for organising membership events, and Molly for marketing and advertising.

At the AGM Nick Robinson expressed and interest in joining our Committee and I am pleased to be able to let you know that, after interviewing him at our first Committee meeting, we have welcomed him on board.

Visit of Nadine Kummer

2nd - 5th October, 2010
We were pleased to welcome Nadine, the daughter of one of the Parish Councillors of Geschwenda, for a short visit to Ringmer.  It was nice that some of you joined us for the meal at the Green Man to meet her.  Many thanks to Louise and Michael, who took Nadine into their home and looked after her, and to Susan, who took her on a tour of coast and countryside.

Visit to Beer Festival in Belgentier

8th – 11th October, 2010
Two members of the Twinning Association (Pauline and I) flew to Belgentier to support the beer festival.  We spent Saturday sunbathing and pottering about in glorious weather. Mais après…le déluge!  We did however manage a little trip to the coast. The beer festival was slightly more low-key than last year, as there were no visitors from Geschwenda, but we enjoyed talking to our French friends and acquaintances, as well as making merry.

Visit to Geschwenda

5th – 8th November, 2010
The Chair represented Ringmer Twinning Association at the 20th anniversary celebration of Geschwenda’s partnership with Diemelsee.  This was a very grand occasion with marching bands, cannon fire and speeches.  We were taken on a very interesting tour of Erfurt – a city well worth visiting - and there was also much opportunity for discussion with both our French and German friends.
