Ringmer Evening W I

There has been a WI in Ringmer for 90 years. It is one of over 6,000 WIs in the National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI), which is the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK, with 205,000 members in England, Wales and the Islands.

The first WI opened in 1920 and met in the afternoon, in the 1960s, when the village expanded rapidly a second WI opened, Ringmer Evening WI.
The two ran side by side for many years and then amalgamated.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
Over the years Ringmer WI has played its part in the life of the community, supporting the Village Hall, helping with village 'spring cleans', planting bulbs and trees, campaigning for improved bus services, and providing lunches and teas for disability groups.

We are part of the East Sussex Federation of WIs and can take part in their activities, and day schools and competitions.
Ringmer WI belongs to Castle Group, with Firle and Beddingham, Chiddingly and Ripe and Chalvington WIs

We organise outings and regular visits to the theatre. There is a walking group, a scrabble competition, and we enter the competitions in the WI marque at the South of England Show.

We give an annual bursary for a member to attend a course at the WI College, Denman College near Oxford.
