Cafe Theatre.
The first event in the celebrations of our 60th year of producing plays, pantomimes and shows, Ringmer Dramatic Society presents another rehearsed play reading in the ‘radio play’ style, offering a bewitchingly charming nostalgic, romantic comedy.
Bell Book and Candle is set in Knightsbridge just before Christmas, and Gillian Holroyd – a young witch - takes a fancy to her upstairs neighbour, Tony Henderson. As everyone knows, witches are immune to human weaknesses such as falling in love; pleasure is one thing but sentiment is quite another. Our witch casts a spell on the hapless Tony so that his friends and family are entirely forgotten: he is completely bewitched, bothered and bewildered by Gillian
But then something goes wrong. Gillian begins to find the potent magic of love is infectious and as its power over her grows so her own powers fade, leading to all sorts of problems. She soon finds that without supernatural assistance the path of true love does not run smoothly. However, it is Christmas and we wouldn’t want a tragedy on our hands !
Can witches really fall in love without making the greatest sacrifice of all ?
