Trees in Ringmer

Champion Trees

The hunt is on for the largest trees in Ringmer. If you know a big tree, send in its name, dimensions, where it is found and photo (if you have one) to wildlife@ringmer.info
Details will be added to the website and forwarded to Dave Moore, our Ringmer Tree Warden. Dave will pass on details of any noteworthy trees to organisations like the Woodland Trust who are interested in identifying Ancient Trees.

Don't forget to get permission if the tree is on private land.

There is no need to specify address if the tree is in a private residence. Just give broad idea of location i.e. Private residence in Broyle Lane or Private residence west of the church.

Measure round the trunk, 1.5 metres above the ground. If the ground is sloping, measure from where the ground is highest.
If the trunk divides or if there is a bulge at 1.5 metres, measure lower down at the narrowest point.
To estimate the height of the tree, using a straight stick the length of the distance between your eye and your outstretched arm to where you hold the stick, walk until the top and base of the tree lines up with the ends of the stick. The distance from your feet to the centre of the base of the tree is equal to the height.
The finer points of tree measurement and estimation are clearly explained at www.treeregister.org/measuringtrees.shtml
